Truly one of a kind gentlemen. This saintly creature is the most willing and sweet ride we’ve encountered. Plus, he's also pretty great to look at. Standing right under 16hh, Grey is a 2015 OTTB who ran his last race on 6/8/23. He has a huge heart and has happily done everything we've asked of him, but racing was not his favorite. He is suitable for a lower level intermediate all the way up to advanced riders of any age. Shape him however you want, he's happy to please, and he's definitely a more whoa than go kind of guy.
Grey has bloomed in his off the track life. Stands quietly while tied, cross-ties, trailers easily, and is perfect for the farrier. Under saddle (or with no saddle!), he is a willing and quiet ride. He has nice transitions, steers and halts with your body cues. Before time off this winter, he had a consistent and beautiful flying lead change - it's rusty but will come back with some practice. He will even ride bridle-less! He LOVES trail rides and is super bold and adventurous; happily hacks out alone or in a group. Grey has lived both out in a pasture with a herd, and in a stall, and comes out consistent and ready to ride in either situation. Ride him every day or once a week or even once a month, he's the same horse. Grey is the perfect horse for a person who wants an uncomplicated, safe and SWEET companion.
Grey does have laminitic x-rays with no rotation. He is sound with front shoes and no additional maintenance at this time. Grey would be most suitable for a non-jumping home to preserve his soundness. X-rays from Nov. 2023 are below in his photo album. Since his x-ray he has been shod (no special or corrective shoeing) and has remained sound.
Good home is a must for this guy.
